Thais Lopes seminar

Thais Lopes, a master’s student, presents her research on cases of sporotrichosis in cats, a fungal disease caused by Sporothrix spp. Her study aims to estimate the prevalence of the disease in the analyzed population. For the molecular analysis, she works with previously frozen samples and uses a DNA extraction kit (Mini Kit), followed by PCR amplification and analysis of feline genetic material. She discusses the current challenges related to DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and the optimization of primers and other molecular procedures. Some samples have not yet produced satisfactory DNA bands, so she is currently working to improve the methodology and obtain more consistent results.
