Rodrigo Nunes da Fonseca

Short Curriculum Vitae

Rodrigo Nunes da Fonseca is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Biodiversity and Sustainability (NUPEM) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-MacaĆ©). He works in the area of Evolutionary Developmental Biology (Evo-Devo) with particular emphasis on the functional genomics of arthropod vectors and agricultural pests. He was the Director of NUPEM-UFRJ (2014-22). Affiliate Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2017-2021). Scientist of Our State at FAPERJ (2019-nowadays) and Level 2 productivity fellow at National Scientific Council of Brazil (CNPq – Genetic Committee 2014-). PhD (2008) and postdoctoral (2009) in functional genomics and evolutionary developmental biology (Evo-Devo) at the University of Cologne, Germany. He has published more than 70 articles in specialized journals with more than 3000 citations (Google Scholar-Factor H=20). The establishment of new model arthropod species using new technologies such as RNA interference (RNAi), live imaging, in situ hybridization and animal transgenesis are research topics of the laboratory. He has supervised more than a dozen graduate students and has several international collaborations with France, Germany, the United States, the Netherlands and Norway, where he collaborates with his former students who carry out research in these countries.
