Jennyfer Castro, a biology student, presented the steps of the plant DNA extraction protocol using the CTAB method (Doyle & Doyle, 1990), from maceration of leaf material to DNA quantification. I also explained the objectives of our project, highlighting the main question we are investigating: whether mining activity is genetically impacting populations of the plant Ipomoea cavalcantei, endemic to ferruginous areas.
