Roundtable discussion “Genes and Adaptations” at Darwin Day 2026, at the National Institute of the Atlantic Forest, in Santa Teresa (ES).

It was a great pleasure to share this conversation with Professor Fabrício R. Santos and Professor Romeu Cardoso Guimarães, discussing how genes shape the diversity of life—from molecular changes to major evolutionary transitions. We talked about gene regulation, adaptation, duplications, cis-regulatory networks, and how genetics continues to expand and deepen Darwin’s ideas in the 21st century.  Events like this reinforce something I deeply believe: science is built through dialogue—between fields, generations, and institutions. And doing this in the heart of the Atlantic Forest has an even more special meaning. Thank you to INMA for the organization and to everyone who participated in the discussion!
