Simulium pertinax rearing in under simulated lotic environments – paper

Study conducted at the Laboratory of Morphofunctional Biology (UFRJ/Macaé), coordinated by Rodrigo Nunes-da-Fonseca, together with researchers Ruan Guimarães, Wilian Rodrigues da Costa Marinho, and Arieli Bernardo Portugal. The team developed and validated a laboratory rearing system that simulates lotic (flowing-water) conditions to support the full aquatic life cycle of Simulium spp. (black flies), from egg hatching to adult emergence, achieving survival rates above 90% across developmental stages.
