Lupis Ribeiro Seminar

I presented a seminar detailing our metagenomics approach applied to pond biodiversity, utilizing Nanopore sequencing to analyze the full-length 16S rRNA gene. This technology enables us to identify microorganisms directly from environmental samples with extremely high taxonomic precision—reaching the species level—thereby overcoming the limitations of traditional short-read methodologies. Our workflow encompasses everything from filtration and real-time sequencing on the PromethIon (P2 Solo) platform to rigorous bioinformatics processing. As next steps, we will focus on standardizing the analytical pipeline and correlating taxonomic data with abiotic environmental factors, aiming to understand local ecological dynamics and consolidate these findings for future publications.
